My Stanley shoulder planes can be set up like a chisel plane, trim plane, edge plane or what ever one wants to call it.
To me it is not worth the effort since a chisel is usually closer at hand and easier to set up.

A tool that I would not spend my money on. I have a Stanley 94 which can be used as a chisel plane. I have always found that a simple chisel excels. I have crank neck chisels, they are not every day tools.
