Thanks Ken. The inner leopardwood frame is Zinsser Seal Coat shellac cut with DNA to about a 1lb cut. I do 2 or 3 coats, whatever gets me the look I want. The inlay is also shellac'd to seal it. You can tape it off to do this with a pad or carefully use a small brush which is what I do riding my knuckle along the edge of the frame as a guide.

The outer frame / inlay is then finished with Transtint Medium Brown and Cordovan in a mineral-spirits:BLO:Cabot's-Gloss blend at 1:1:1. I wipe on the blend until wet and then wipe it off the inlay immediately. I wipe the balance off after 20 minutes or so. I repeat this process one more time. This does not leave a heavy film and really leaves the wood figure obvious but, adds enough protection and gloss for items like this that experience minimal handling.

Really nice, Glenn. Just had to raise the bar a few more notches, didn’t you?

Thanks again, everyone . Small items like frames, boxes, key-catcher/valets and so forth are a great place to make a bold statement with a figured wood without breaking the bank.

I just realized I never posted a fully completed shot. I'll put one up as soon as I get a chance.

Just plain gorgeous, any other comment would be redundant.

Sorry about the zombie thread thing. I forgot to post one with the glass and photo installed.
