    Firehouse Bookcase for my Grandson

My Grandson Elliott had his 1st birthday just recently and Mom and Dad requested a bookcase for his toys and books. They asked for something normal, square and stained. I wasn't having any of that. He's a kid, what's he going to do with a plain bookcase?

So I went onto the internet and found some pics and liked one that looked like a house.

The shelf unit is made from 3/4" Maple veneered particleboard. The roof is from Maple veneered plywood and the trim is made from soft maple. All the paint is conversion varnish. The white is BM White Dove, the Red is SW Show Stopper and the gray is 75% BM Anubis and 25% BM White Dove mix. The paint was the real challenge here.

I also got him a firetruck with plush friends and made him a ladder.

Everyone said that gift needed to be opened first. They all wanted to see what it was.

Yes! Bright colors for children! Well done.....but I think it needs a night light. And the dog needs a more conventional place for his pedigree papers !! Maybe a pocket and wallet!

Well done! I think the effort put into the paint job was totally worth it.

I'm not a grandparent, but my parents seem to take great joy in ignoring my instructions/requests about my sons, and my sons love them for it. I'm sure your grandson will feel the same.

Wow! What grandchild wouldn't love that?

We're expecting our first grandchild in January. I'm starting to watch posts about projects like this very closely.
