They are really talking about this on their forum. They don't think that Glowforge proof grade could go up in flames and he must have been cutting something that wasn't approved. They keep on saying that if the fans were working there would be no fire as the fumes would be exhausted. What a bunch of know nothings. Also they say it had to be burning a long time.

Well, Good luck to the rest of the GF fans. I read a bit the other night when this was first posted and every one was wow, he ran it How long? And He must have poured water on it, Oh, it's too close to the wall, and it can't burn up, he did something WRONG!!!!

    It's a fantastic 3D Printer!

Uh, hope no one loses their house using one. He was real close. I don't go to the bathroom 6 feet away in same room unless I'm running Stainless steel..... And even then I'm watching it closely.

Oh, And the good news! They finally started shipping the 'pro' model.

--which means, the first ones shipped must be getting pretty close to the end of their life expectancy, yes?

Strange, I tried finding the thread on GF forum but couldn't find it. It's definitely interesting to see all the issues they're having though, like several people on their 3rd and even 4th machine that failed and needed replacement. What's the old saying? Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me, three times? What's that?

I love this statement buy one of the GF owners, makes me wonder do any of them have a Clue

"Some things that will definitely burn (paper cardboard balsa etc) get an undivided attention session.

Other things like historically safe woods (at known speed/power etc) and acrylics, are a little more relaxed attention wise."

Found it thanks, interesting that the consensus seems to be the the GlowForge is still a success as it was able to contain the fire and not burn the house down, GF wins again!

Yea me too thats why I posted it, LOL I think most fires start while cutting acrylic , then wood would be next. Paper and the like I think for the most part would burn up fast and be less likely to start the machine on fire.
Another post said that he was cutting acrylic because acrylic doesn't leave heavy soot LOL I wonder what kind of acrylic he's been burning LOL

I see they are also discussing getting shocked from their machines and not just static shocks.

    Really? Shocking!
There is NO getting your money back. They've already stated no refunds if you had ship date...... So yes, as long as the company exists, and your warranty (most probably dates from first ship date) they'll replace. OOPS, after a year what?
End of Life as GF knows it.
And Acrylic? Heck I watch any of that like a hawk. Engraving OR cutting.

ENGRAVING acrylics is pretty much never going to start any fires, there's never enough heat in any one place long enough to start any combustion, like quickly passing a piece of paper over a flame. Myself, I never worry about ANY raster engraving starting fires.

CUTTING acrylics, different story, like SLOWLY passing paper over a flame. I don't leave a machine that's cutting...

But, we're talking about glowforge here, where SLOWLY and ENGRAVING seem to be one in the same
