    $2.25 spent today...so far..

    One little garage sale today...just had to stop in.....after all....it was IN a garage...

    Bevel edge chisel is 1.5" wide....Corner chisel is 1" each side.

    Rawhide Mallet was a quarter....Still cleaning the combo square..

    Went on a walk-about later......and walked back home with this grungy thing

    Says Bailey No. 3 in front of the knob.....there is a SW in a heart on the iron. "STANLEY" on the lateral, STANLEY on the lever cap, cap is the keyhole style.

    Have all them grooves to clean out....the is a step under the rear of the handle..

    Three patent dates, and the frog adjust bolts. Knurlings are straight...all three rows.
    Rosewood for the handles.
    Might be a type 11?

    They had the iron installed wrong....chipbreaker does NOT go on the iron's bevel. Yoke was not in it's spot in the wheel....
    Not too bad of a day?

    Somehow, methinks a No. 3 Type study does not jibe with a No. 4 type study......have elements of Type 11 and type 12 in this plane....not sure when that type of lever cap came along, either.

    Not a whole lot to do with the hammer....just rawhide on a stick..
    However..I tried to clean the two chisels up a bit....

    Still need to be sharpened up...corner chisels are a bit tricky to do..

    Temporary handles..until I find proper ones, or..someone turns a few...

    Combo square says it is "Made in U.S.A." Not only is there a level ( stanley?) there is also a scriber still in place.
    Bevel edge chisel is 1-1/2" wide. Corner Chisel ( PEXTO ?) is 1".
    May start cleaning up the plane, tomorrow.....

    Ok, why two knobs? Because the one that WAS on the plane was a Millers Falls made one.....Happen to have a tall Stanley-style knob handy..

    Small parts. Depth adjuster is the small diameter version....LH, too...

    Lever cap was supposed to be a plain one? May keep it this way..

    Sitting here with the other #3 sized planes in the shop...

    Not sure about that chip breaker....IF the iron is advanced enough to make a cut....mouth opening all but disappears...

    This is even after I cranked the frog backwards a bit......Will look into what the trouble is..later...no rush, yet. Need to sharpen the iron, anyway.

    Either the slot is for a different maker's plane....or something else is messed up. Rear handle is solid, no sign of a crack, nor any repairs made.

    Will sit this beside the English made Stanley #4c....for now.

    Just out of curiosity, what do you do with all your garage sale purchases?

    You post a lot of good finds and show fixing them up. But, you must have hundreds of them by the number you post about.

    When the shop has visitors...they usually leave with a few tools. Sometimes they buy them, sometimes they are gifted a few. I don't do the "Auction Site" thing...haven't for several years now. Got to be too much of a low-paying hassle.

    Most of the items will tend to be used in my shop. Or...used as parts for items already in the shop needing a hard to find replacement part.

    Hi Steven,

    That plane looks like it is going to be excellent. Clearly a Frankenplane, but all Stanley parts, and the parts all look to be in good shape, as far as I can see. As Frankenplanes go, yours look like a very good one, in my view ya did good!

    It looks like most of it is from the transition period type 11 to type 12. The lever cap and iron are from later, probably the 1920s. Is the iron good?

    Hope you get the glitch worked out and I am sure you will.

    Had to laugh though, before you added the bit on the plane, I was looking at the chisels. I was thinking you were going through that big money, and was hoping you didn't spend it all in one place. It looks like the chisels turned out well, once you got handles on them though. That corner chisel in particular.

    I know that I have walked home with a few.... and at least some of those I eventually passed on to someone in more need than I.

    Ok...got this plane to do it's job..finally...

    backed the chipbreaker a bit. Chipbreaker did have that blue coloring on it's underside....means only the iron is "new"

    Iron has been sharpened to 2K grit...for now. Had to file the mouth a tad in front of the opening, too. SW iron may have been a tad thicker than the Triangle Logo ones?

    So now I have a #4c and a #3c.....the #4 is a bit newer, though..

    Sooo, a mystery? Is a SW iron actually thicker than the triangle logo irons? I had to file the mouth opening a bit....just to get the SW iron to work.

    I don't have a Triangle Logo iron for a #3 sized Stanley in the shop, right now.....

    Was able to back the chipbreaker away from the edge a bit....Seemed to help out. Backing the frog a bit..didn't do much..IF anything.
