    Kitchen island ?

OK, I promise this is the last question about this island. Finished putting 5 coats of ARS on it(came out nice). The island has a 12" overhang for counter seating. Should I put a coat or two on the bottom just to be safe or not worry about it? Have read that you should finish both sides, moisture transfer or something. 2" WO.

You can just throw some shellac under there if you feel more comfortable but if that top is thick (I don't remember specifically), leaving it bare isn't going to matter a whole lot. In this situation with a thick surface, the benefit from the coat of finish is more for tactile feel when folks put there hands under there...for various reasons, good and bad...

I'll just put a coat on for the feel. If people start leaving boogers or gum under there we're going to have issues. Thanks to all who helped this noob.

Finish with a couple of coats underneath. Even at 2 inches thick it needs sealing both sides. Takes little effort now and saves a lot of grief later.Cheers
Every construction obeys the laws of physics. Whether we like or understand the result is of no interest to the universe.
