How you get red white blue wood

How would I get red white and blue woods for cutting boards or other small craft type products. I have thought about using some bloodeood or padauk, but they do not seem vibrant enough. I have never used dyes before. Would this be a good choice? If I do use dyes how is it done?

All the dyes I've used in my shop penetrate only a few thousandths into the wood. If you dye a cutting board, you're going to be cutting through the dyed wood into the undyed part.

I have bought thin wood which has been dyed through and through. I do not know how they've done it. When I say "thin" I mean 1/8" thick or less. It is useful for marquetry, but not much more.
