Very cool. How do you achieve the 3D effect? The recessed pieces still look like they’ve been turned to the same shape. Do you move them after turning? I understand if it’s a trade secret.

I was wondering the same thing. Of course if it's a trade secret i understand but I'm dying to know.
Hide glue and a heat gun?
Maker of Fine Kindling, and small metal chips on the floor.
Embellishments to the Stars - or wannabees.
If I had to guess, I'd bet that you turn the vase with the proud pieces missing (perhaps there are recessed pieces behind them to hold the overall shape?), then glue in the missing pieces and turn again. That seems like an awful lot of work, so I'm certainly curious if there is a more straightforward approach.

Regardless of the technique, they look great! I especially like the ebonized one since it allows focusing on the form.
