My old drill press in use

It's not woodworking, but thought some of you old machine aficionados would enjoy seeing my old drill press in action. It's ratchet strapped to a wobbly pallet, and the VFD is haphazardly "installed", but when you need to drill 4 foot of 9/32" hole through stacks of plates, this old flat belt beauty is the ticket!

It would be loved in my shop too.

Besides, sometimes drilling a hole in steel plate is for woodworking.

Old iron has a beauty all its own. With the occasional belt and motor change it should be good for at least another 100 years.

That's a serious bandsaw with blade welder and power feed. A steal at $600.

Wow, that's a steal price! I doubt I'd ever need to cut 4" plate, but if it was close I'd buy it just in case!

Nice Steve! Those remind me of a harp for some reason. My last drill press had power feed, had to switch to a Clausing for space reasons, and I sure miss it when drilling metal.

Ha, great video Steve, except you've got it running on the lowest speed.

That drill bit might die of old age

    Regards, Rod.

Lol, it's going a little slow here for sure! Actually it's got a planetary gearbox in the top flat belt sheave, there is a lever and wedge pin that engages. It's in the high range in this video. I did kick up the flat belt speed after this was taken though, cut the boring time in about half.
