    Maple Burl Hollow Form

I was given a truckload of maple burl a few weeks ago and my first turning from it this weekend is a 14.5 inch tall by 8 inch diameter vase. It is shown with only a danish oil finish and it will get either a poly final coat or lacquer finish.

The figure is incredible and popped when the oil was applied.

My wife has a spot picked out for it in the house already.

Youser - that's an awesome piece of burl and craftsmanship. Well done, Scott.

Thanks for the comments. This piece certainly made the lathe hop a few times. Had it come off the lathe once. I was about 6 inches down in the interior, got a catch and it sent 20lbs spinning about 1000rpm went straight up seemed to hover for a few seconds before landing next to the lathe, bouncing and spinning like a top. Not a dent, scratch, crack on the piece. I got lucky.
