    Latest harpsichord finished

    Hi all,

Just finished my latest harpsichord - a Franco-Flemish double manual. The case and lid are poplar painted off-white. The stand, keyboard (naturals), music desk, and lid stick are made from Sapele. The lid and soundboard paintings were done by my wife, Sandy. The build took just over six months.

For those interested, I will post some sound files as soon as I can.
    Thanks for looking.

    Ernie

Wow, most people just get an MP3 player for their shop. Absolutely stunning work, lease show up more photos. What does the top look like when closed?

Surely bound to make beautiful music! External side surfaces appear as panels covered in a burl veneer? Exquisite artistry with winter landscape paintings on the lid interiors! Curious also what the wood looks like on those lid upper surfaces when closed?..

Lee - here's a photo with the lid closed.

Morey - The side panels are not veneered. Instead, it is a faux marble finish using oil based paint and glazing liquid. The gold bands around the panels is an acrylic luminescent paint made by Golden. I stopped using real gold leaf years ago when the price went through the roof.

Thanks to all for your nice comments.
