How does a laser tube quit

For the past while I have had to adjust my settings considerably, power max and speed slow as the tube I figured was failing
This week during a cut it just quit, will not fire manually etc no arc
Is this the way they quit i thought it would just get weaker and weaker

is there any power supply voltage checks i could do to verify
the power supply has not failed

In your own words you say it got weaker and weaker- there comes a point when the tube just won't fire, seems you found it...
