Has anyone done a side table with legs having three tapers...just the two sides and back of the leg tapered with the outer face “flat” to the front? Wondering how this would look on a table I’m working on.

What does your table look like?
I expect that in at least some cases, the taper on the back face could make the table look like the legs splay out like buck teeth.
I’m attempting a Federalish end table...basic 18x15 x 23H. No drawers on this one. Federal style tends to be round or four sided tapered, but I was thinking of keeping a little more beefy look to the legs...thus just tapering three sides. I’ll probably end up doing a slight four side taper, but just wanted to see if anyone had done the three sided.
Phil, I've done plenty with the outer 2 faces straight and the inside ones tapered. Three tapers could be okay. I suggest machining your 3 tapers and then dry assembling to have a look. If it's good, no worries. If it's not, just machine the last taper. Cheers
Pencil and paper or SketchUp for a "what if" drawing. Taper jig with a center pin at the foot for the cuts.

Thanks all. Knowing I’m going to do three or four, Wayne, your suggestion seems to be the best way to go.
I’m sitting here looking at an end table near to the size you’re planning with legs like you describe. I think it looks fine with no apparent splay to the legs. I’ll try to take a pic.

Steve, thanks for posting! It looks good to me. No loss in doing three, having the boss decide, and make it four if necessary, but I do like that look.
Lee, thanks for rotating your the photo.

Well, brain freeze, not the LOML decided on 4 tapers. Ran the wrong side (front) through the saw on the last leg. Couldn’t adjust because mortises were already chopped. Even chance I would have ended up here anyway, but man, can my brain go dead sometimes.
Yes, I have. I think it would look good on your table!
