Cool Did a bit of trading, today

Had a couple "extra" hand planes, taking up shelf space....Dunlap #3 and an Anant A4....wasn't being used...so

There is a store, not far from here, that Buys, Sells, and Trades Antiques....set the two planes on their counter...and did a bit of "shopping" Plan was to trade even up, my two planes, for whatever I picked....deal was done, time to go back home..

So, what goodies did I find?

    6" square...Ratching Versatool screwdriver....Stanley 60-1/2 Low angle Block plane.

Round brass has three pins, same on both sides....WD40 to loosen the screwdriver tips up..

Block plane is filthy..but, all the parts are there.

Will need a bit of rehab...versatool cleaned up nicely, though..

Not too bad of a day? Even avoided two wrecks on the way back home!

    Steven,

Not too bad......looks like you may need to work some magic on the plane though. When you get done may be a winner.

Here we go, then. Took almost as long to sharpen the iron, as it did to clean the plane..

Has a few pits, here and there, not a biggie

Knob is missing a spot or two of Nickle plate...that box?
    IMG_3911 (640x480).jpg
    Seems I already have a #60-1/2..

Maybe different "Model Years"? May keep one in the box, and use the other...

A new honing guide came in the mail the other day...

Guide works GREAT...the stone that came with it? Not so great. Irwin Marples....even had a bottle of oil.....Irons ( both of these) are now flattend, and sharpened to 2500 grit. Will try them out later.

The 60 1/2 plane is my favorite apron plane. I wore one completely out. It was an original 60 1/2.

I bought a new one, it is a decent plane, but I do miss the original. If I ever run across another old 60 1/2, I will jump on it.

I bet the maroon handle plane of yours is the newest one.

They are both Cordovan models. There is also a 9-1/4 Cordovan in the plane til.
