Why not a different thread on sharpening.
This one is inspired by Lowell Holmes post on The Charles H. Hayward years. Looking into the work found Lost Art Press has free downloadable excerpts from each volume. The first of which covers the beginning ground work of sharpening to just about anyone's content:

Funny isn't it. Since we learned smelting and gave up chipping obsidian it has remained the same. Make a tool rub it on a rock go to work. Wash and repeat. ��
