Walnut and Cherry Clearance at Home Depot

Was at one of my local Home Depots(Woodhaven Blvd/Queens #1220) today and they had Walnut and Cherry on clearance. Brought 25 ft, two at 9 ft and one at 7 ft, of 3/4 1x6 Walnut for $65.75 plus tax for a savings of $187.50 compared to the regular price. Yesterday the Walnut was $7 and change and the 1x6 Cherry $3 and change.

It seems to indicate that they will stop carrying Walnut and Cherry. Might have to stock up, but at least in Walnut all they have left is 1x4's, 1x3's, and 1x2,s.

25 linear 1x6 of walnut is 12.5 board feet, so if you paid $65.75 then it was $5.26 per board feet for dimensioned walnut. Not exactly a steal in my area, but for some people it may be worth it.

That said, it's nuts that the normal big box store is 3x that clearance price. $15.75 per board feet of dimensioned domestic walnut is just insane.

Come down to the Eastern part of the country and all we have is red oak. poplar, and pine to work with from the BORGs. Prices are definity out of this world there. I have actually driven 3 1/2 hrs. one way to buy lumber and still came out ahead.
My Dad always told me "Can't Never Could".

I bet those are pretty good prices for Brooklyn. I’m in bad shape if I pay $5/bdft here in Ohio - that means all my regular private sawyers are tapped out and I have to go to the bigger yards.

That gets it down to what I pay at the local sawmill for S&B Cherry. Walnut would be a bit more, although I personally rarely buy walnut - it's a weed tree at my place, so storm damaged and other culls provides me all I need.
