    Dining room set

Here's a Dining room table and chair set that I've been working on for some time is finally done. Chairs are based on a design from Tom McLaughlin that was written up in Wood magazine a few years ago, but my seats are set in rabbets and I used horsehair instead of foam. The table is based on the Edo design from Thomas Moser with some modifications to the top. All in cherry...

Final piece is a sideboard that I just started, based on a Garrett Hack piece from FWW

Really looks great!!! I thought that was a Moser design influence...one of my favorite makers!

Very well done, Mike! I’m not sure I have the patience to build multiples of anything, let alone a full set of chairs. Hats off to you.

Thanks! I built one chair as a prototype with all of the shaping done by hand. It was good experience but I decided to build a few jigs to speed up the build of the rest of them. Biggest help was a double sided shaper jig for the back legs - allowed for “downhill” milling in both directions. Saw it in a Tom McLaughlin video

Stunningly nice work, Mike. It's so refreshing to see a table with such graceful lines - and no live edges.

Where do you buy horsehair for the seats?

Very nice. I particularly like the table base.
    What finish did you use?

Thanks again for the comments. I should also mention that these pieces have been my projects for a night class at Phil Lowe's school which is nearby. Started in Sept of 2016, so I'm not setting any records for speed!

I got the horsehair (and most all upholstery supplies) from Albany Foam and Supply - great customer service.

The chairs are finished with Watco then padded blonde shellac, table also started with Watco then Arm-r-Seal

So, no prize for speed but, definitely a prize for delivery. That set came out great. The use of jigs when doing multiples that will be used in close proximity always seems to pay dividends. Very nicely done.

Beautiful work. I’m in the middle of a set of chairs right now so I can appreciate the amount of work and jigs involved.

Nice work! I really like the table design and the chairs complement very well.
