Cigar Ashtray finish recommendations

Greetings,

A customer has asked me to turn a Cigar Ashtray out of Walnut, I would appreciate your suggestions regarding what finish would be best?

Personally, I'd find a plain, shallow tempered glass vessel of appropriate size and turn something to fit around it given the nature of the use. Almost all, if not all, finishes will burn...

Emphasis on the "TEMPERED" glass. The heat from a cigar can easily crack or even shatter untempered glass.
