    First Live edge bowl

I finished my first live edge bowl today. It is maple burl. about 5 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall. Finished with shellac, Watco Danish oil (natural) and about 5 coats of lacquer and then buffed out.

Very nice, Scott. I would be so pleased to have made that.

Random question about the finish - What does shellac prior to danish oil do?

Nice job Scott. All the little points look still there. Guess now you will be hooked and be doing more. I like turning NE pieces with or without the bark usually more in the long oval configuration and do not find the "sawtooth" edge you have here.

I read an article by Jimmy Clewes that said sealing the wood evens out the sheen.
