Thread: Corel trimming question

  1. #16
nothing I've tried works to get me the desired result:

fp.jpg--which is, to cut away the rectangles AND leave an open "stencil" cut, as shown. Doesn't happen, Corel ALWAYS closes the opens, as shown in my graphic.
I've also tried every variation of grouping, combining, double and triple segments, hand-drawing line by line- doesn't matter, never works.
Can't find any help in the 'help' section or options.

The only way to get the desired result is to cut out the opens after the fact.

Redraw the box with single lines by hitting escape after every line. do not use the continuning line.
    erase the original box
    place your two cutting rectangles
    select all
    do the back minus front

if that fails, try to select just one line and the cutting rectangle, then the back minus front.

    works that way in X6

With all due respect, that procedure takes longer than cutting away the unwanted portion afterwards...

YES! And I found out about the virtual segment delete tool (for the first time ever) when you brought it up in post #2! -- I THOUGHT I put up a post shortly thereafter, but seems I didn't?

I've been trying to figure out if there's a trick to leaving opens without using the v-s-delete tool, and there just isn't one...

The v-s-delete DOES have a learning curve, such as, don't weld or trim first, it needs overlapping items.

Now if I could only find such a tool in Gravostyle...

    Craig,

What happens when you just overlay your square with a box with a white fill and no outline? no trim, weld or join?

It does if you're desired result is a bunch of filled shapes. Smart Fill can remove the segments, but then it closes the shapes left open, which is exactly what I don't want...
