    Hand plane identification help

Hi, I need some help identifying this plane. I've searched Patrick's Blood and Gore, etc, but have not been able to come to a conclusion (I'm also very new to planes so please excuse my ignorance).

Based on the iron I think it is a Type 1–2? I thought I had narrowed it down, but the bed dimensions do not match any of the models that I thought it might be.

    - The bed dimensions are 1 7/8 wide and 6 1/4 long
    - There are no markings on the plane, except for the iron ("L. Baileys...")
    - Adjustable mouth
    - Knobs are brass

Or maybe I didn't get lucky at all?

    Some photos.

    Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to apply the type study for Bailey-style bench planes to a block plane?

That appears to me to be a #9-1/2 block plane. The combination of a rounded lever cap, squared-off iron, and flat sides (no dimples) make it a late-1800s example, definitely pre-1895.

yep, got lucky...Type ones used a slotted bolt, instead of the brass knob.

Howdy Andrew and welcome to the Creek. The sizes on Patrick's Blood & Gore refers to the blade size, not the width of the body.

Here is a page that puts a date to the trade mark on the blade:

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the help. I think I had my dimensions confused. Does the width here, http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan2.htm#num9.5, refer the width of the iron?
