Good 2" open Spring Clamps to buy ?

I am very happy w my 25 yr old Pony 3202 clothespin type spring clamps.

But, need a dozen more for new project.


So Jorgenson/ Pony is dead.. at least as we knew it.

New owners starting to make them again.. but you know where.

Rare clean singles on Ebay sell for about $10 - 15 each.

All kind of chinese options out there,like on Amazon.. not interested in a cat in a sack as my Dad would say.

So, the 3202 2" opening that I need has still not been unloaded from the boat.. not yet available.

And, when it does hit the shelves, one can only guess what the quality will be.

Bessey spring clamps seems to be also Chinese I think... w poor reviews.

Irwin 58200, again, China, but may be a possible.

Whatever I get I have to buy sight unseen, cant feel them in my hand before buying.

I want a pretty stiff strong spring like the old Pony.

Suggestions?

Check out FastCap. I bought some from them last year and are pretty nice. Don't know the origin of manufacturing though. They may come from overseas too, but knowing FastCap, they may manufacture their own. Not sure.

Can't tell for sure and does not say at FC website - Do they open to and function correctly at a 2" jaw span?

Don't laugh! Harbor Freight has a wide selection of spring clamps like you describe. I have some of the more expensive ones ($2) and they work just fine.

Yup, Harbor Freight's spring clamps and small F clamps are quite usable.

I have some of both Pony & Irwin. The Irwin's are stiffer than the Pony's and have a little harder/squarer pads. My Irwin's are several years old so I don't know if today's clamps are the same quality.

How good does a spring clamp need to be to get the job done?
The $4 Besseys at Home Depot seem to be functional, and you can always go try them before you buy and/or return it if you don't like it. Then there are the $0.99 HDX metal ones also at HD.

I have some Bessey ratchet clamps that are supposed to work kind of like a spring clamp. I found them to be worthless. The ratchet mechanism won't hold under any useful amount of force. I wish I had returned them. Here is a picture I found.

A very interesting spring clamp is the Bessey variable mouth version here. I bought one on a whim and it came in so handy I ended up going back for more. It seemed like I was routinely trying to quickly clamp to the bench and the standard 2" was just a little too small.
