    Table by 1000 cuts

As I was cruising through trestle table plans, I came across this: http://woodarchivist.com/3952-rock-s...e-table-plans/

This is the first I've come across many of these measures to make a billion little boards into what is traditionally a table made with a few components. What are people's opinions of this sort of construction?

Laminating to make thicker stock is not uncommon and making mortises like that is certainly a viable option which also doesn't require much in the way of tools. 3/4 in. thick stock is generally less expensive than thicker stuff and usually more readily available so if those are considerations, this construction method doesn't seem to me so far fetched.
