I just finished retrofitting nine 8' T12 fixtures to hold six 4' T8 LED lamps each. It's not difficult.

I had the same problem. Rather than use one or the other I used a mix of both types. Now, in place of 18 T12 fluorescent lamps I have 18 4' 4000K T8 LEDs and 36 4' 5000K T8 LEDs.
    Beranek's Law:

It has been remarked that if one selects his own components, builds his own enclosure, and is convinced he has made a wise choice of design, then his own loudspeaker sounds better to him than does anyone else's loudspeaker. In this case, the frequency response of the loudspeaker seems to play only a minor part in forming a person's opinion.

I have 5K T12 LEDs in my shop. They are way bright. I like them, but the "blue" doesn't give great contrast to my work. So, I also use 100 W incandescent bulbs uncovered. Together, they give good contrast and are easier to work under. At least for me, that' s what I do. If I'm not woodworking, I just use the LED lights.
