    Table top miniature loom

I have a job as part of a technology exhibit at a contemporary arts museum. I have a small workshop set up in a shipping container in the center of the exhibit. I can build, fix, or take things apart while I'm there. Part of my job is to interact with visitors who come in, talk to them about how things work, how technology has changed, and how to do things by hand. I also get to play occasional tunes on the accordion so people can see how they work. I'm currently doing some spinningand carding of wool and llama fiber, so I decided to build a small loom so people could experience weaving. They get to do a small section and the loom has been as popular as the manual typewriter I have there.<img

Looks like an interesting job and the combination of the two devises is good,in that some of us remember when it would
have been one old fashioned loom next to a symbol of modernness .

You built that pretty dang quickly Tony - I remember your earlier post. Does it work as great as it looks?

That is really cool. Did you use plans? Or just build it as a scale model based on a full size version?

Thanks everyone. It was based on another small loom that was made fairly cheaply, maybe in the 60's. I changed the size, made solid frames for the "shafts" which are the things that make the warp strings raise and lower, made the reed out of metal and replaceable so you could swap out reeds of different "dents" or spaces, and made the ratchet wheel ( the reason for my original post) with finer teeth for better tension adjustment. This one works pretty well, but I'm already finding more future improvements. It's funny how all crafts have their own language. When I started to reply, I thought , how can I explain things without explaining all of the terminology used for weaving?
