    My Drill Press Table

Since the day I got my drill press I knew I was going to end up building a table for it. Obviously, there are a lot of options out there for how to go about it but I wanted something simple for my first go round.

It's not huge, just 24 x 14 but it has an adjustable fence with stop block and replaceable zero clearance inserts. The best part was that I built it completely from scraps and hardware I had lying around.

The only hiccup along the way was realizing that the crank didn't have clearance after I made a change to the design mid project. It was easily fixed though. Overall, a simple, cheap project for a pretty good return on investment.

Nice job Tim! I built mine very similar to yours years ago and ran into the same problem with the crank. I ended up using only two t-nuts underneath that I loosen and move the table forward an inch or so to move it out so I can turn the crank. Nice remedy. Also like the idea of off setting the spoil board. Never thought of that. Again nice work!

Very nice. Mine also has the insert off to one side to make use of the four corners. I often wish I would have made it round ;-)

Well done indeed! Having the replaceable insert will serve you well. I also wish mine was circular.

I don't have a crank on my older Craftsman drill press. It required that I lift or lower the table to a working range, clamp it in place via a column clamp, & then use the depth adjustment. Lifting it was awkward & getting to be more of a challenge as I got older. So, I installed a long stroke hydraulic cylinder under the table to raise or lower the table & clamp it when in place. Works well.

I get asked questions like that all the time and I've yet so say "yes". Haha. I guess there's quite a few Tuttles out there. I'm just not related to any of them.

You might want to check out the 1995 movie "Volunteers" with Tom Hanks and John Candy. Candy's character is frequently introduced as "Tom Tuttle from Tacoma, Wa".
