    Large DIY Spray Booth, How-To

I posted pictures of the cheap tear down spray booths I make in another thread some months ago. I finally got around to editing up a video of what I build and how to go about it, and it's the first video on my new youtube channel which I'm going to be working on with Sam Fowler (a farrier, formerly working with Alec Steele who has a pretty big channel). The plan is to do a bunch of low cost yet effective DIY shop projects, we've filmed a bunch of wood CNC tips and tricks stuff already, as well as tool reviews (from endmills to workshop equipment) and various goofing off things. I'd love to hear what you think of the idea, and any suggestions you might have to improve it! Its a walk in style booth, rather than the little desktop one for spray painting tokens.
The cost for the first one is under $50, each one thereafter (I replace it every 2 weeks or so) is about $5-10. I'm getting comparable results to the $25k automotive booth I was using when I worked at the university, I just don't have the massive air flow that keeps the air breathable haha.

I have an interest in building an indoor spray booth for my woodworking shop as well as another for my garage, or outdoors, in the summer, for larger projects. My thoughts run toward a PVC box construction 5' cube inside & 8' cube for outside enclosed in plastic sheeting. Hoping you can get your link to work to see what you offer.

Thanks Roy! I had some issues with the post preview, I think it made a mess of the links...
I was thinking of using pvc or 1x1 or 1x2 frames, but ended up ruling it out because of the storage (had no room for them). By using the aircraft wire across the roof, I could theoretically get the car into that side of the garage (at least, thats what I told the wife!) and leave them up all the time. It worked out pretty well!

    No problem.
Here's a suggestion for the frame: old collapsing tent poles. They called them "shock poles", since they had "shock" cords at the joints and they could be folded quite small. With some creativity, you could make some wooden joints to fit the pole ends into to make it stand, I should think. When done, fold the plastic, collapse the poles, all neat and tidy.

Here's one such kit at Amazon, just to illustrate the item.

I have two knock down booths, one for outside in the garage when the weather permits and one for inside during cold months. Both are basically 2x material with plastic stapled to it and i roll it up when done. The inside one exhausts to the garage.

Some really good suggestions. In line with Roy's suggestion I previously found this ( https://www.amazon.com/HomeRight-She.../dp/B011L3DVVO ) and ( https://www.homedepot.com/p/HomeRigh...38-M/206260426 ). However, I'm found myself up against a wall with no good way to exhaust the paint fumes out of my workshop enclosed walls of concrete which is next to a finished basement.

How do you handle the fumes?

You may consider a simple box fan with several stacked furnace filters, unless it's combustible fumes, like oils or lacquer. To have those build up (furnace filters would be unlikely to catch the flammable fumes, only larger particulate) next to a room that probably has a combustion source would be inadvisable.

snap pipe clamps like these may be handy if using a pipe frame-

Roy I was once again thinking of a box fan & furnace filters, but having used this before (with 2 filters) I thought it allowed too much of the fumes into the workshop which is only 400 sq. ft. and adjoins the "furnace" room. Perhaps the use of 3-4 filters would work better, but where those are particle filters I suspect they won't be all that effective on fumes as they still remain in the room.

Marc I'm thinking about 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC 3-way elbows with matching PVC pipe to make into a break-down I was also thinking of something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011L3DVVO...=UTF8&me=&th=1. There is a smaller version which may be more appropriate for a "hobbyist" woodworker, https://www.amazon.com/HomeRight-She...+Spray+Shelter, but the problem of removing the fumes still remains???

Possible idea - Look at the general idea, then consider the 3/4 EMT fittings.

Then can use the clips to hold the poly onto the EMT.

Great suggestion Marc! I'm certainly going to look into this. Thank you.

Great suggestion Marc. I just ordered some for a 3/4" PVC pipe paint booth I made, (5' cube) wrapped in plastic sheeting on top of a tarp with a fan/furnace filter arrangement on the rear side.
