    “The Diggings” Deep Relief Carving

I thought I'd share a deep relief carved panel I did a couple of years ago. I’m really into our local gold mining history here in Chewton Australia. ( The Richest shallow alluvial gold field in the world! ) And with me also being a prospector / metal detecting for nuggets and with our place being right smack in the middle of the gold fields here I just had to carve a gold rush themed piece! So ( The Diggings ) is authentic to the way the old timers dug for Gold here.

The panel is 6 feet wide and carved from 6 each 2x6s of cypress. My drawing and carving was inspired by a artist S.T. Gill who was here for our gold rush in 1851.

    Thanks for looking.
