Turned Nativity- anyone ever done one? Tips

I have been thinking about trying to duplicate a turned Nativity set that my parents picked up about 50 years ago in the Philippines. It has a vary modern feel with different color woods. I am not looking to copy exactly. I am just looking for experience, war stories. Can you post a larger photo? That one is only 236x198 pixels, not much bigger than the thumbnail.
