Christmas gifts - down to the wire

Well, nothing like waiting to Christmas Eve to finish this year's Christmas gifts - Shaker oval boxes. Frankly, it's not my best work as I was a tad rushed. Luckily, the recipients (the cherry set to my Mom and the birds-eye maple to my Sister) won't see the flaws like I do. They were fun to make and relatively quick to churn out even for a slow woodworker like me.

"They are beautiful ,Brother Tom. But you are way under quota." Just adding a little more authenticity. Everyone loves Shaker boxes.

Under quota and late delivery ... I definitely couldn’t hack it in Santa’s workshop!

Very nice! I want to learn how to make those when I grow up. In the mean time I'll send you my address if you accidentally make too many.

I'm approaching the end of the the "wire" myself. I'm still making a few gifts on the lathe for people we won't see until later this week!

Very nice! And you finished them before the last run of ol' Nick's sleigh. Sounds like everyone came out ahead

Nice boxes! I really want to learn to make those.
Did you build from scratch or use a kit?

I made them at a weekend workshop at the Marc Adams school and then finished them at home. You can get everything you need (and then some) from the Home shop here: http://www.shakerovalbox.com/ which basically has everything anyone could want concerning Shaker oval boxes.
