Dining Table from Reclaimed Oak Beams

I just finished construction of a dining table from reclaimed oak beams. The beams came from a mill that was constructed in the late 1800s. They appear to be some type of burr oak or post oak.

The top finished out at 44” wide x 12’ long x 6/4” thick. It is attached to the apron boards using clips that should provide the top plenty of room to breathe. The legs are tapered from 4” to 3” on two sides and are attached using traditional mortise and tenon jointery.

I hope to start finishing the table over the weekend, and I plan to use General Finishes American Walnut stain and Arm-R-Seal.

I will post a picture soon.

Please ad your photos as soon as you can as that's the object of this forum area. You do want folks to believe you did this, right?

He's serious about this....he actually had to stop at my house and physically touch my dining table before he would believe it!

Robert- If I lived anywhere near you I would use the same excuse Jim did to see that beauty in person.

I had hoped it would be easier to upload a photo from my phone. The room the table is in is so large, the lighting makes photography a challenge. I will try to take better picture over Christmas once I remove the poly sheeting and move the table into place...

That's a very fine design, Thomas. I like that the center legs are far from the edge of the table. Very nice job.

A great piece of work. Plenty of room for family and friends.
Rustic? Well, no. That was not my intention!

Love the proportions and colour. Great to recycle wood!
