    Making a heavy panel clamp

Looking for "heavy" built panel clamp rigs. Have permission at work to weld one up. Looking for home made ideals. ..thx

Look at some of the used clamp racks with proprietary clamps. Most have about six layers. They work well if the clamps are stored beside ,not in, the rack; and management insists all start at the bottom. Not start at top and block further access. The ones I used had 36 and 42 inch clamps.

Take a look at the August 2009 Woodworkers Journal, they have plans for a homemade Panel Press using Pipe Clamps, wood and Aluminum angle. It still takes up space, was thinking of making the Platens and press bars to use on my panel builds. Dan

    And doucet.

Tell work to just spend the money. Paying you to do it is asinine.

We already have clamps wheels. Wheels have limitations. We need 16'+ and in some cases 60"-72" in width..

I think he is not looking for a storage rack but more like a panelsaw to clamp big work while the glue dries.

I have the Plano, like you pictured in the OP, works fine. Peachtree sells a different brand that's a little cheaper. Why not buy?

Need it extra heavy duty. 1/4 steel...

One thing I would change from the Plano - I would get rid of the tightening knobs and set it up for an impact wrench.

    Heck, new ones are cheap.

Jack, what are you trying to improve on over the standard options?

Width. Width is what you need.

Have you called any of the manufactures to see if they'll custom build something? Might be more cost effective even with shipping instead of a local fab guy trying to reinvent the wheel.
