Have a pair of earbuds that came with an ipod purchased maybe 5-6 years ago. I have not used these for about 3 years and just left them on top of a desk. Today i picked them up and the rubber is all gooey and sticky. I have no idea why...has anyone ever noticed this?

On the old version there was a rubber cover on the outside and rubber degrades and does that sometimes under the right circumstances. 5 years seems to be about as long as iPhone earbuds last anyway before a wire breaks.
