    16' Lumberyard Skiff

Hello. I haven't been on this site for a long time. Here are some pictures of a Lumberyard Skiff I built on Cape Cod during the Winter of 2015. I launched it in May 2016. I'm powering it with a 30 HP Suzuki and keep it on a trailer. I purchased Walter Baron's design. I recommend it highly.

That's a serious looking skiff John, Nice job. Does the 30HP push it well? Any more assembly pics?
    What's next?

Thought you'd never ask.b1.jpgb2.jpgb3.jpgb4.jpg Here's some photos of the hull coming together (propped up on a milk carton), flipping it over to work on the other side, a shot of building the upper deck, plus more. Thanks for the compliment. The 30 HP is more than enough. It really moves along nicely. It's a flat bottom boat so I don't take it out when it's blowing, but on a nice day on Cape Cod Bay, or in Pleasant Bay, or exploring the harbors and inlets, it's ideal. As for what's coming next, I went to the Cape Cod Boatbuilders show last weekend in Hyannis and saw such levels of craftsmanship and artistry that I wasn't inspired -- I was intimidated! I'm building a cherry bathroom vanity now.

    John,
Remember, it's a boat, not apiece of furniture. Enjoy it and thanks for the assembly pics.

John - glad you posted this. I saw you mention the skiff in another forum and based on your location wondered if it was Walter's design. Love the picture of the sides attached only to the stem and splayed across the floor.

I think you mentioned it in a forum post about "where do you buy your screws" ...

Looks great! I can't use flatbottoms where I live because the normal sea state around here is 4-6 feet, but these are great little boats for your waters. I bet she flies with a 30HP. I believe the Suzuki is built on the same base as the Tohatsu, which has an extra ring landing on each piston, and they last forever. I abused my Tohatsu and she never let me down.

Great job indeed! Very impressive. That looks like a very stable platform for fly fishing for stripers on the flats.

    I like it!

I like it so much I bought the plans and am picking up materials for to build the LYS later today.

I may have a few questions along the way if you don’t mind.....
