    Guard on Lathe

Does anyone use a guard on their lathe when spindle turning. I am thinking about the kind that arches over the length of the bed.

Not me...even if I had one, it would be disturbing to me from a vision standpoint. I've only ever seen one on a PM3520 and everybody who leaves it on the machine pretty much uses it as a tool holder... That said, I don't want it to seem I'm minimizing safety considerations. I just personally prefer a face shield over a stationary guard.

I have a PM3520a and my gard is in the shop floor!

It gets in the way of my view! almost every thing that has come off my lathe has gone out the back side from where im turning.

Thanks. I've not used mine, and given the responses not much chance I'll decide to use it in the future. I may keep it just in case someone would prefer to have one if I sell the lathe. But I'll put it in "dead storage" not in the shop where every square inch counts.

I have a 3520 PM and actually do use the guard most of the time when turning larger pieces that I'm not sure of. I agree most of the time it is in the way.

Don't have one, would not buy one, I just use a face shield.

I got one with my Vega 2400. Like many before me, I leave it on the machine. To be used as a tool holder! I'm another one of those full face mask users and feel that's adequate without impairing my already poor vision!
