    Octagon Rim

Here's a salad bowl (13" x 3"). I started with a BLM blank with some large bark inclusions that I couldn't incorporate into the piece. I loved the wood grain in the bottom, so I cut off the sides with the inclusions and proceeded to build up the sides with inlayed rings of black walnut, and maple burl. As I assembled the top rim of beautifully grained black walnut, I thought I would try something new plus save as much of the walnut for viewing. I ended up liking the looks and feel of a octagon rim.

Sorry the pics are a bit dark. I shipped it off in a trade for a case of California wine and don't have it available to retake pics!!

    C&C's always appreciated

I like it. If I ever get good enough at round turning I might try this.
