I am a few years late in replying to this question but here is a video that shows how to install Byrd Cutterhead in RC-33: https://youtu.be/zFdcSKi47ZU and PDF file if you prefer to read: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16ZL...fzkmopxBk/view This will give you a good idea of what is involved to help make decision. I will say that having made the upgrade I am pleased with the quality of wood surface, and very happy that I will never again spend time sharpening and setting straight blades. The RC-33 is a well built planner so worth the investment.

While following Mr. Google to the edge of the internet I came across this RC-33 pictorial tear down and restoration by Ed Hollingsworth http://bullfire.net/Planer/Planer.html
