Sorry it should work right out of the box and if it doesn't I send it back.
For the GF owners need to rationalize the problems to keep more buyers coming in. To paraphrase one of fan girls on the forum "if the company fails we only have a dead laser cutter". That might have been in their private forum section, from back when I still had access.

Because of the GF KAK's * support the value will stay up and they can sell when it comes at the opportune moment, kind of like the BitCoin gold rush craze. Timing is everything, cash out and go!!

See it all the time in this industry when people make bad choices...they will simply look for the information that supports their bad decision rather than look objectively at the situation and come to a reasoned conclusion.

Bert you need to get with the new way of thinking

Your $500 item is great because it only cost you $500 rather than the $700 everybody else paid, they must be stupid to pay $700 and you must be smart to only pay $500. Ok, so theirs works and yours doesn't but at least the company you got it from will fix it for you (eventually if they don't go bust for selling $500 tat)
Even if yours never works you did only pay $500 for it after all rather than $700 so you will still be $200 up on the deal with your broken wigit

Think what you can do with that $200, dude, that's like Christmas coming twice a year. In fact that $200 you earned is great, you could get a few tubs of Cermark...maybe take Mrs Kemp out for a nice meal and an evening away.

see where this goes? eventually with enough re-enforcement people will only ever see the $200 you "Gained" rather than the $500 you threw away
    You did what !

Or like a friend of mine that his wife went to a casino and said she won $700 but she didn't say that she came home with less money than she went with

I don't think this one is correct either.

"I am thrilled to report that this tutorial is no longer necessary. If you use the new SD Engrave setting for large sized engraves, the image should process without needing to be split."

They showed a picture of how a photo that had to be split up looked and you could see 4 distinct parts where they came together. So I know that was a problem

"Was" might be the operative word. I included links, if you are interested.

One post I read brought up and interesting topic. The software is automatically updated, if I understand it right. Well, some user didn't like a feature that was in the works for the future and said it would cause him workflow issues so he's like some advanced notice before they release it.

That made me wonder about how it worked. Does it automatically update to the latest software because it's cloud based? If so, that would be a problem, I would think. Many people find a combination of software and driver releases that work for them. For example, we use X5 because it works for us. Have no need for X_____ (whatever release they are on now). I'm not sure I'd be thrilled that things automatically update and I can't stay on some legacy version of the software.

Made me think about it. I have no idea how their system works, nor do I care much, but it did make me think about having all my stuff automatically update and how big a nightmare that could be for some.

Browser-based. Ideally would work with whatever OS (Windows/Mac), browser, most supported files, CAD software, device (tablet/laptop/etc.)

Neither of those links show what a picture looks like stitched together like the one that I saw. Isn't the first one basically layers and the other one talks about they are working on it

Unfortunately, I can't read those links for you, but you might try taking another look. Here's the gist:

"I am thrilled to report that this tutorial (Splitting Large Images) is no longer necessary. If you use the new SD Engrave setting for large sized engraves, the image should process without needing to be split."

Under "Latest Improvements - Changes may take 24 hours to appear."

"Printing Improvements Following our brief scheduled downtime Monday, we rolled out some significant fixes that we hope you'll like:

    • Fewer upload errors
    • Fewer planning errors
    • Faster planning for prints
    • Large prints should work better We know how frustrating it is when you upload a print and get an error - that should be happening quite a bit less often now!"

Ah but Dave heres the thing the company I bought this from is in no danger of going under and they have the BEST customer service in the business, bar none. So I'm not worried they will take care of the problems. Second a few years ago they made this product( was a little different but not much difference) and were selling it for $500 but I didn't buy one back then. They decided they could not make a profit at that price point and stopped making it.. That Item that sold for $500 back then now sells for over $3000. So if in the unlikely event they stop making them again I have a great investment.

Matt - many users are asking if GF could at least post when a software or firmware update has been made and the more pushy users are asking for change logs and status pages showing if the GF cloud is having problems or not. And a few are asking for error message that actually gives you some idea of what happened when something goes bad. The GF KAKs response to those requests seems to be that GF should not bother with fixing those issues now in favor of solving more important issues.

I don't write software for a living so am probably naive but am still really surprised at how far behind GF is on delivering basic features that were promised 2+ years ago and totally astounded that they are still having problems with ProofGrade orders not completing, lack of of error messages, lack of update change logs, and no GF Cloud status page. By comparison, the cloud-based 3D CAD package I've been using lately has no problem providing all of that info, despite releasing significant updates every 2-4 weeks and providing authoritative answers on their forum every day. Small bugs are often fixed within a day or two and sometimes within hours of being reported. Bu then Onshape as a company seems to be far better managed than GF.

More than 2 years ago. 2 years ago, they had the campaign and in that campaign, they showed a working machine. They didn't write the code to do that campaign overnight. They spent a lot of time developing that prior to the campaign. My guess is they have 3-4 years on that software at this point.
