    Chain marks?

Hello folks, new member here. I was wondering if anybody knows what causes these marks on lumber. This is black walnut 4/4 and we got a pack of 1000 ft and about every board had it, both sides and about 2 ft intervals down the length of the board. some of the tracks are so deep that the bruising under goes 1/4 in deep. Thank you for any input.

Could have been cut on a circle saw mill with a tooth bent or badly out of set. No excuse for a sawyer to keep producing boards with this quality issue in my opinion.
