Problem after installation of spiral cutter head in G1021

The installation went well. Planer runs well and quietly. The planer had been sitting unused for several years. When I feed a piece to be planed it is stopped by the feeder and I have to really punch it to make it go through. I am resorting to a solid tap with a mallet and then the piece goes right through. After the tap it feeds properly and the end product is what you expect from that Byrd spiral cutter. What do I need to do to make it feed smoothly?

Sounds like your chipbreaker might be hanging slightly low. You also may need to adjust your feed rollers for height and and possibly even pressure.

X2 that would be my guess, especially the feed roller adjustment. Too loose and the work piece will chatter, too tight and the piece will stall out going through.
