    I have used it on a very fine rock maple wood bench I made...works well.

    I just used it again last week and it's a good, consistent product for the things I build. I havent tried the tinted versions and cant comment on that part of your question.

    I don't particularly like Watco as a finish, but that is not surprising since I don't like oil finishes in general, but Watco dark walnut is one of my favorite stains on red oak, particularly if I am going for a period mission asphaltum look.
