First Project Thread, First Child - Oak Crib

This is a crib I recently completed for the upcoming arrival of our first child. It is made of solid oak, with mortise and tenon joinery for the rails and steam bent lumber for the hand rails. I added the initial to one of the raised panels using a shop made router template, and joined the sides to the headboard & footboard with Rockler bed frame hardware so that it can be easily disassembled.

    That's really nice!

Of course, now you're bound to giving your next child a name that starts with "K"
I love that steam bending rig. Are you using a turkey fryer?

Is the mattress height is adjustable? It won't be long before the newborn is standing up in the crib and you will need to lower the mattress to prevent he/she from falling out of the crib.

Beautiful job on the crib and your design and welcome to The Creek Dan.

Oh yeah! That's good stuff! Red oak has its place and you've found a perfect one.

Glad to have you with us on SMC.

Very nicely done - might use a similar look for an upcoming project. (I know the OP hasn't been on since posting this)

It almost looks like you could disassemble and use the back for a headboard on a child-size bed when the crib is outgrown. Maybe that was your intent?

Lovely result, very substantial. Drop front cribs are out of fashion my daughter tells me!
