About a month ago I received a package of turning blanks from John. At the time I was frantically rough turning the remains of a red oak from my yard. Even though the end grain had been sealed, the sides of the blanks were checking badly. I was literally watching the cracks grow day by day. It really was a race against time. Then I had a bunch of adirondack chairs in the queue. So, John's wood got set aside.
Well, I've finely gotten to working some of that wood and as my way of saying thanks to John I thought I'd post a photo or two of the early results. My two favorites are the top center one with the bark inclusion and the short walnut goblet on the right. All were turned to completion damp. Not quite wet, but not dry either, and they've all gone out of round a bit which I think adds to the end result. The finish is multiple coats of wipe-on poly or just carnuba wax.
