    Woodsmith Drill Press Upgrade

I finally finished this project and I am really pleased with the outcome as this is my first cabinet project. It was fun and challenging. All of the drawers came out flush with the front and the space around all of the drawers was even. YAY

Now I have a place at my drill press to store all of the bits and accessories I use.

Expensive? I doubt that it was expensive compared to similar items providing that function ;-) That came out great Raymond. I often long for a similar setup. I built a weighted mobile base for my DP and haven't moved it since it went in ;-( I rarely lower the table more than 12" or so from the head so a drawer unit like you show would be fine. IT'll be great having all your DP stuff right nearby.

If memory serves, I think it was around $150 but I had the oak boards already that were gifted to me from a remodel project. I did not make the table as I have a woodpecker table so that save a little material. I think I got all the 3/4" plywood cut from a 4' x 8' sheet and a 2' x 4' sheet.

There is a material list with the plans so you can price it out where you like to shop.

If if you build it, you will be glad you did. It is a great addition to the shop. Gotta love Woodsmith for the free plans.

    That's really nice! Excellent work!

I should consider something of this nature, myself...the additional storage would come in very handy, not just for drilling related stuff, but other items that tend to be used at that end of the shop. Hmmmm

Raymond that is a really nice piece of work, more like fine furniture. Definitely class up your shop.

That is a high end version of the Drill Press caddy. I made it just according to the plans. It's a great addition to my shop. For those considering this upgrade to their shop, you will be pleasantly surprised to have the storage and best of all, you can now move your drill press easily and when not being moved, it is much more stable than just the base alone. The wood is mostly plywood. The hardware does run up the price a bit, but the space gained is well worth the cost.

It came out fantastic. I like how you kept the grain pattern on the drawer fronts. Very nice detail! I think it's a great cabinet and functional too.

I have a cabinet about that size next to my drill press, and I'm out of space in my shop. I think I will build the woodsmith version starting this morning, and do away with the existing cabinet. (more room for another toy)
