    I believe you will find a small spring loaded ball residing on the top of the tailstock quill. If you push on the ball with a small screw driver it will detention. Drip in some machine oil to lub the quill. At least the one had was equipped that way.

    Good idea but the loaded ball is made for a small grease gun sold for greasing chainsaw blade roller sprockets.
