I have a Delta 1440 lathe (46-715?)that has been very noisy since it was new. Today, I finally put a dial indicator on it and found that there is 0.040" wobble at the outboard end of the headstock shaft. I originally suspected the bearings, but now I wonder if the shaft is bent. I have read that some of these lathes were sold with bent shafts when new. How can I diagnose the wobble and remove the shaft and bearings if needed?
