    Pierced Goblet "Hard to Swallow"

Here is another recent piece. This was a trial to see "can you do it". I wanted to do a goblet that was fully pierced including the stem....so.. there is a 1/4" hole down the entire length of the stem and the foot is thinned up to the stem as well. The result was a piece that was darn close to 1/16" everywhere, fully pierced and nothing for weight! Now that I got that out of my system, I probably won't do it again (at least just like this). The end product is a bit fragile.

    Hard maple, 6" x 2 1/4", 1/16" walls, tung oil.

    Comment away! Thanks!

No, it's not thin enough yet.

Wow, Scott. That's amazing, and it gives me the "willies" at the same time. Your patience with these piercings is apparent. I have trouble finishing turning a piece before I want to go on to another.

Another WOW from me and I would be afraid to even pick it up. Wonderful job and a steady hand!

I'm going cross eyed just looking at it. Beautiful work. Very unique and a real show piece. Bet you can't wait to make a match set. It is worth more as a one of a kind.

    impressive....enjoy

  7. An amazing piece Scott, I get tired just thinking how much work it was to do, but you have a one of a kind, I doubt if anyone else would have your patience, not to mention the skill level it took to do.

Some people take a perfectly good turning and then go and poke all those little holes in it, burn it, and add extra color. You missed a couple of extras, but that is dramatic and shows a lot of patience. Just don't go to the bandsaw and split it to show the uniform thickness of all the walls. Looking for your next interesting piece.

    Scott,
You are a sick puppy. A very talented and patient sick puppy but sick no less. Neat concept.

BTW Scott, you know the old saying, if it doesn't hold water, it must be art. 8-) That's one fine piece of art my friend.
