Cool Easy fix for a chisel

On a recent rust hunt, picked up a couple $1 chisels. Nothing really special about either one. IMAG0100.jpg One was a 3/4" chisel, the other was 1-1/2" wide. Would have liked to have had a handle on it, but owner was a bit rough on it. next day, at another rust hunt siteIMAG0096.jpgSpent $7 for all of this. There is a file stuck in a wood handle. Just a little metal file, nothing really special.....except for that handle..

Got the Treasures home. Knock that handle off the file. Took the ferrel off. A little grinder work to form a cone on the end of the handle. Sized to just start into the end of the chisel. A few good whacks with a malletIMAG0098.jpgNow we have a usable wide chisel. Parts were just $2 total. Spent a bit of time sharpening the chisel's edge. Seems to be a nice wide paring chisel. Price was right, too.
