My largest customer has requested that I consider purchasing a 2d barcode scanner for the purpose of reading their orders and entering them into the UPS World Ship software. I have to pay for it if I choose to obtain one so I'd like to find a reliable unit in the $200-250 price range. I have found a couple of units at about $350 and am trying to save a few bucks.

This is for relatively light duty use---up to 1000 orders per year.

I'm looking for recommendations.

If you are just looking for a low use bar-code reader you can get one form Staples for under $120. The only thing you have to watch is what type of code do you need to read and will a given reader read that code.

Newegg has one for $102 that should do all you need.

+1 I've used this model in manufacturing environments with 1000s of scans per week and they hold up to the abuse well. My folks drop them and the units still manage to hold up great. Motorola customer service was excellent as well. Easy to program too.

Thanks for checking but the critical spec is that it must be 2d. Those are 1d scanners.

I like the Wasp and the Motorola brands. Honeywell has one but it's over $300 with cable and stand.

There is a Symbol DS 6707 on Ebay for $85.
