I've sold enough slate type turkey calls and Crow calls over the last 7 years to pay for my 1640 Oneway lathe more than 3 times. I was very lucky to be able to get a good name for making calls and people just keep buying them as fast as I can turn them out. It isn't as enjoyable as turning bowls and Hollow Forms, but they always put money in my pocket. Jack
Now there's a thought. I can scratch a slate and make a triple reed cut, cluck and pur
Salt Cellars, Boxes or anything with a lid seems to sell well. 2"-3" Tea Candle holders. I sell bowls that are a bit thicker, usually out of cherry or Walnut and call them Ice Cream Bowls, thick enough so your hand doesn't get cold holding it and the spoon doesn't 'clank' when it hits it... guys seem to really like these. (Tell them to get a dedicated silver spoon to eat the ice cream with because it'll enhance the flavor.) And they will.
Have a Nice Day!
Love to learn how to make a good call. I don't hunt and don't have a clue. That turkey call thing... I don't get it. But would love to sell them if I understood. Got any helps or hints?
Have a Nice Day!
Could you send me one too? PM it. thanks!

It would be nice to see some pic of the Items you are selling .
If you addressed that to me - the OP - I'm just getting started and am simply trying to direct my efforts. I plan on producing quantities for (hopefully) sale. There is so much I'd like to learn that I find myself jumping from project to project. I'll probably settle on seven or eight reasonably simple items and focus my attentions on "mastering" them before moving on to more complicated projects. Mastering in this case meaning of a quality that I would offer it for sale--in other words, my picky self would buy it.

Nice, Curt. Really like the cedar bells on the 2nd page. Gotta ask-how many people ask if they ring?
Ya, that's always been an issue with the bells. I've tried about everything I can think of to make them ring and they all sound pretty lame. Wood on wood just kind of clunks, little brass bells don't look or sound very good. I've made a few with beads in wood, brass, and glass, just for looks but mostly I don't put anything in them.
For me the utility market is too far away and so its the arty type that sells. But over winter its slow with the coming of spring and more tourists the buying season starts and runs down to Christmas. Oh I'm in Australia and so the seasons are reverse of yours.
